Comfort Hearing provides hearing tests for children who are 5 years or older. All children should have a hearing test prior to commencing primary school to make sure they are able to hear adequately in a classroom environment. Children may also need a hearing test if they;
- have poor concentration
- don’t respond when their name is called
- talk loudly or have the TV up loud
- mispronounce words
- seem to be falling behind in school
The type of hearing test performed on a child depends on their level of ability. We will look in the child’s ear and may choose to perform either Play Audiometry or Pure-tone Audiometry. Play Audiometry turns the test into a game to keep the child interested whereas for Pure-Tone Audiometry the child presses a button if they hear a beep. We may also perform speech testing and tympanometry depending on the child’s level of ability and tolerance to the testing process. Parents are encouraged to be part of the appointment and are provided with a report which we can also send to a Doctor or anyone else required.
