IIC models are designed to fit deep in the ear canal, utilising the natural localisation and resonance properties of the outer ear. IICs are the smallest custom-made devices, nearly invisible when worn. Due to their small size, they are typically prescribed for mild to moderate hearing loss.
In the Ear

Invisible In The Canal (IIC)

Completely In The Canal (CIC)
CICs are almost invisible because they fit deep inside the ear canal. It may be possible for the wearer to adjust this style of hearing aid, using a pushbutton or remote control. This style us appropriate for people who have mild to moderate hearing loss.

In The Canal (ITC)
ITC models fill the ear canal opening and are appropriate for mild to severe hearing losses. The size means it’s possible for the aid to contain the full range of features such as Bluetooth and Directional Microphones, and it is possible to get rechargeable devices in this style too.

In The Ear (ITE)
ITE models fill the outer ear (Concha). They are the most obvious of the custom series and are suitable for mild to severe. Due to their size they are easier to handle than smaller custom devices and it is possible to get rechargeable ITEs. The size of this style means it’s possible for the aid to contain the full range of features such as Bluetooth and Directional Microphones. Bigger Better still!
Behind the ear

Receiver In The Canal (RIC)
This style is commonly called receiver-in-the-ear (RITE) or receiver-in-the-canal (RIC). This style is suitable for mild to profound hearing losses, and was specifically developed for people who have a sloping style hearing loss (hearing that is worse for the high frequencies). They provide stable amplification and significantly improved sound quality, and compared to custom devices they have more features, control options and battery capacity. They are available with rechargeable batteries and they come in a wide range of sizes, shapes and colours. Most popular!

Behind The Ear (BTE)
BTE models fit behind the ear and are inserted into the ear using either a thin tube and dome or an earmould, depending on the level of the hearing loss. A BTE with an earmould can be one of the easiest styles to manage. They are suitable for mild to profound hearing losses and can have more features, control options and battery capacity than custom devices. They are available with rechargeable batteries and they come in a wide range of sizes, shapes and colours.
